Every fall, sixth through eighth graders across Frankfort open their inbox to find something most kids never get: a card that says yes. The Yes Card, issued by the Franklin County Health Department’s Just Say Yes KY coalition, is a digital gift card loaded with funding for youth enrichment activities — and this year, one of the places students can put it to use is 30,000 feet closer to the sky than they might expect.
DreamFlight Charities is proud to be a registered Yes Card provider, which means eligible students can apply their card directly toward membership in our OpenSkies Flight Club. If your student has ever looked up at a passing plane and wondered what it would take to be in the cockpit, this is the moment to find out.
What Is the Yes Card?
The Yes Card is an electronic gift card automatically distributed to every sixth, seventh, and eighth grader in Frankfort at the start of the school year — no application required. Built around the coalition’s mission of “Upstream Prevention for Franklin County’s Youth,” the program exists to remove cost as a barrier between students and the activities that build confidence, skills, and a sense of belonging.
Cards arrive by email through the Yiftee platform and can be used to cover registration fees for out-of-school activities, club memberships, sports and music lessons, camps, and required uniforms or equipment bundled into an activity fee. They can’t be used for retail purchases, tuition, meals, or event admission on their own. Each card expires at the end of July, so families have roughly a full school year to put it to use.
What Is OpenSkies Flight Club?
OpenSkies Flight Club is DreamFlight Charities’ aviation program for middle and high school students in Frankfort and the surrounding region. Members meet monthly on Saturdays at Capital City Airport, and each session pairs hands-on aviation learning with a free lunch, guest speakers from the aviation industry, and time with working pilots and mechanics.
An annual OpenSkies membership includes about eight hours of documented ground school instruction that counts toward future flight certifications, the chance to apply for discovery flights and flight training scholarships, STEM-based projects and activities, field trips, and leadership and volunteer opportunities within the club. Annual membership is $150, and individual lunch tickets are also available for students who want to sit in on a specific meeting before committing to the full year.
Upcoming 2026 meetings are scheduled for September 19, October 17, and November 21 at Capital City Airport in Frankfort.
Putting Your Yes Card to Work
Because DreamFlight Charities is a listed Yes Card provider, the balance on your student’s card can go toward their OpenSkies membership dues — turning what might otherwise sit unused into eight months of ground school, mentorship, and a shot at a discovery flight. When you register, just let our team know you’d like to apply a Yes Card, and we’ll help you get it credited toward your student’s membership.
One thing worth noting: Yes Cards are issued automatically only to sixth through eighth graders, while OpenSkies welcomes both middle and high school students. If your student is entering ninth grade or above and isn’t sure whether they still have card funding available, the Franklin County Health Department can confirm eligibility — and we’re always happy to help families figure out the best way to fund a membership either way.
