OpenSkies Flight Club Arriving in August

DreamFlight Charities is excited to be launching Frankfort’s first, student-oriented flight club! The OpenSkies Flight Club has been designed to introduce students to the entirety of Kentucky’s aviation and aerospace industry, all while providing unique opportunities to learn the basics of flight and experiencing them firsthand through a variety of engaging STEM activities.

While the club will feature yearly dues for its members, OpenSkies’ open house event is completely FREE with RSVP and will feature the following activities and speakers.

Engaging Speaker Lineup

This open house event will feature a variety of guest speakers to provide you with an overall view of the flight training process in addition to a wholistic view of aviation in Kentucky:

Mark Carter, Commissioner for the Kentucky Department of Aviation, will kick off the day’s activities by detailing the significant achievements and potential held within Kentucky’s ever-growing aviation industry.

Adrian Reynolds, CEO of Wings Flight Training, will detail the progression towards professional flight over a complimentary lunch provided by DreamFlight Charities.

DreamFlight’s Executive Director, Drew Underwood, will detail additional plans for the OpenSkies Flight Club, including information about potential flight training scholarship opportunities.

Airport Operations Tour

OpenSkies open house event will also include a variety of interactive experiences, including a tour of Capital City Airport. Having first opened its runways in the early 1950s, CCA serves a variety of aircraft, including based Kentucky State Police helicopters, additional rotorcraft from the Kentucky National Guard Army Aviation Support Facility, and the Kentucky Department of Aviation fleet.

Along the way, participants will be exposed to a variety of professions within and outside of the cockpit, all supported by the Commonwealth’s robust air transportation network.

Flight Simulation Lab

In addition to ground school instruction planned for future flight club meetings, OpenSkies looks to make use of DreamFlight’s mobile flight simulators to further embellish learned skills while helping students hone their piloting skills.

Utilizing the Microsoft Flight Simulator platform, the club will be able to host themed aviation camps and simulation experiences that are sure to inspire and challenge aspiring aviators. Be on the lookout for scheduled Flight Sim Saturday events for both active club members and the general public!

Drone Operations

DreamFlight Charities is developing partnerships with other like-minded groups to bring even more to the table OpenSkies Flight Club members, including the opportunity to learn more about drone operations and in becoming a certificated Part 107 Drone Pilot.

Be on the lookout for additional announcements concerning these creative partnerships and opportunities, as well as how your student can take advantage of them in order to get an early start in their aviation career!

You can expect all of this and more when joining us on Saturday, August 16th. Opening presentation begins at 11:00am, with lunch and rotations beginning shortly thereafter, all on-location at Capital City Airport.

Again, this event is FREE with RSVP, so be sure to reserve your spot today!
